This is a collection of my works which, for lack of a better term, I call “McAllister’s Surrealism”. My work in this area addresses a sense of desolation, invisibility, and solitude in all its positive and negative aspects, often using traditional cultural and artistic symbols. These include representations of faith, relationships, mortality, love and dysfunction, and include addressing society’s willful blindness towards those on the margins. When characters appear in my work, they may be messengers who convey to both the artist and the audience “Here I am; invisible to you; but now see me.” Some pieces are also reflections of my inner world, expressed through the symbolism of my “personal iconography”. Interpret them through your own experiences and catalogue of personal symbols, and see in them whatever is meaningful for you.
